Its tranquillizing and soporific effect is due to its buthenol content. It is a substance that is released from hop-acids during storage periods.

Its effects:
- Good tranquillizer and barbiturate.
- Recommended in case of diarrhoea of neurotic origin.
- To treat dysorexia, digestive or stomach disorders.
- Antispasmodic,
- Antibacterial and fungicidal, disinfectant effects,
- Purifiers kidneys, applicable in case of bladder hypersensitivity or enuresis (bed-wetting), too.
